8 Southern Salads, Zero Lettuce 🐓🫛🍤

Hey there,

In the South, "salad" means something a little different.

Not the lettuce kind. The chicken salad, potato salad, pink fluffy something-in-a-Tupperware kind. The ones that show up at every potluck, reunion, and Sunday supper, and disappear before everything else.

These aren't side salads. They're the reason you came!

Here are eight worth adding to your rotation, whether you're packing lunches or getting your list ready for the first cookout of the season.

MAIN-DISH SALADS

Southern Chicken Salad

Shredded chicken, Duke's mayo, and just the right crunch. Serve on a croissant or right out of the bowl.

Shrimp Pasta Salad

Shrimp, shell pasta, and a creamy dill dressing. Make it the night before, it only gets better.

Chicken and Rice Salad

Chicken, rice, grapes, and almonds in a creamy dressing. A lunch you'll actually look forward to.

SIDES AND POTLUCK STARS

Easy Potato Salad

Tender potatoes, hard-boiled eggs, mustard, and a little relish. The one every Southern cookout.

Southern Macaroni Salad

Creamy, a touch sweet, with bell pepper and celery. The kind that disappears first at the reunion.

English Pea Salad

Sweet peas, cheddar, red onion, and a creamy dressing. A classic that deserves more love.

Cornbread Salad

Cornbread, bacon, tomatoes, cheese, and ranch-y dressing. Layered like a trifle, built like a casserole.

Pink Salad

Four ingredients, five minutes, and yes, it counts. Ask your grandmother.

Cookout season is right around the corner, so consider this your head start. Save a few for the weekend, pack one for lunch, and keep this email handy.

Happy cooking,
