What to do with summer's best produce 🌽 🍅

Hey there,

Fresh summer vegetables don't need much to shine! When the produce is this good, the simplest sides tend to be the best ones on the table. Here are a handful of Southern classics that let the vegetables do the talking:

Fried Corn

Fresh corn cut off the cob and cooked down in a skillet until it's sweet, buttery, and a little creamy. It's about as Southern as a side gets.

Okra and Tomatoes

A true Southern classic, stewed with bacon, onion, garlic, and a splash of vinegar so the vegetables taste like something special.

Marinated Cucumbers

Crisp, tangy, and refreshing, and my mom's cucumbers only get better the longer they sit in the fridge!

Creamy Corn Salad

Light and fresh with tomatoes, bacon, and herbs, it's one of the best ways to enjoy corn at its peak.

Sautéed Zucchini

A quick stovetop side with garlic, butter, and fresh herbs, ready in under twenty minutes.

Quick note: if okra's reputation for being slick has kept you away, the fix is heat and a little acid. Cook it hot, resist the urge to stir too much, and let that splash of vinegar in the okra and tomatoes do its work. It comes out tender, not slimy.

Here's to the good stuff coming out of the garden right now.
